>>  People coming to therapy for the first time often have a lot of questions
I'm always happy to offer answers to your questions - though I don't have all the answers, and I may not have the answer you're looking for. If you want to ask anything not covered here, just get in touch.

Here are just a few of the questions that I get asked from time to time...

FORWARD
COUNSELLING

>>  I'm not sure what I want, or if I need counselling. What are my options?
I offer an initial 30-minute meeting for us to talk more about what you'd want from therapeutic work. If you decide it's not for you at the end of this meeting, there's no obligation to arrange any further sessions. I guarantee no hard sell, and no pressure to commit.

>>  What's the difference between the various types of counselling (eg. Transactional Analysis, CBT, NLP, Gestalt)? Which is best?
Each therapy modality may have a slightly different focus or technical process, as well as many similarities and shared components. Current research suggests that the specific type of therapy is less important than the strength, value and potency of the relationship between the therapist and the client. You may wish to explore what different types of therapy can offer, to decide which might suit you best - ultimately, a strong therapeutic relationship will be most effective in supporting your personal change.

>>  What should I expect from counselling?
That's a simple question, without a simple answer! Click here to find out more about TA, the particular modality that I use in my work. The initial meeting is a good chance for us to explore what you'd be looking for, for me to outline what I can offer you, and to address any fears or anxieties you may have about the process. For every person, though, the exact process and experience of counselling or therapy is unique. Whatever your experience may be, I'm on hand to support and share it with you - the most important part of the therapeutic relationship is knowing that you are not alone.

>>  How can I be sure it's money well spent?
My current fees can be found here. I recognise that work of this nature involves a significant financial commitment, and I am happy to negotiate a reduced fee for a limited number of clients on low income. As an independent practitioner, my work is how I earn my living. I receive no funding beyond the income generated by my work, and my fee will always take into account any costs of my own - room rental, ongoing training, income tax, insurance and professional memberships, supervision, and my own personal therapy, for example.
