Frequently Asked Questions

How much do counselling/therapy sessions cost?

Click here for my current prices and availability for individual work. For couples counselling, click here. For individuals, I may be able to negotiate a reduced fee for clients on a limited income. Contact me for more info.

It seems very expensive - how can I be sure it's money well spent?

I recognise that work of this nature involves a significant financial commitment, and I am happy to negotiate a lower fee for a limited number of clients on a reduced income. As an independent practitioner I receive no funding for my business beyond the income generated by my work, and my fee will always take into account any costs and fees of my own - room rental, ongoing training, supervision and my own personal therapy, for example.

I'm not sure what I want, or if I need counselling. What are my options?

I offer a free initial meeting for us to talk more about what you'd want from therapeutic work. If you decide it's not for you at the end of this meeting, there's no obligation to commit to further sessions. If either of us feel that I'm not an appropriate person to support you with your work, I'm happy to refer you to colleagues who may be better able to help you.

What should I expect from counselling?

That's a simple, and reasonable, question - without any easy answers! Click here to find out more about  what therapy can offer, and here to find out more about the particular modality that I use in my work. The free initial meeting is a good chance for us to explore what you'd be looking for, for me to explain what I can offer you, and to address any fears or anxieties you may have about the process. For every person, though, the exact process and experience of counselling or therapy is unique - being open to your particular experience is a vital and powerful part of the overall process. For some people it is an exciting and enjoyable process, for others it can be confusing, challenging and even painful. Whatever your experience is, I'm on hand to support you and share it with you - the most important part of the therapuetic relationship is that you are not alone.

People coming to therapy for the first time often have a lot of questions. I'm always happy to offer answers, with an acknowledgement that I may not have the answer you're looking for. If you want to know anything not covered here, just get in touch.
