Often there may be no simple explanation for relationship problems - problems which might themselves be hard to identify - and there may be factors such as friends, family, children or financial issues which distract you from identifying a straightforward resolution.

Working with a therapist offers the two of you a safe and confidential environment in which to explore the nature of the problems you are experiencing, and help you work effectively together to resolve them. Whether it's outright arguments, or seemingly trivial domestic conflicts, counselling offers a time and a place for you both to express yourselves openly with a view to finding a happier, healthier way of experiencing each other.

Having a non-judgemental third person involved in the process is different from asking a friend or family member for advice - I will not be taking sides, or seeking to allocate the blame or responsibility for the problem on either of you. As with individual therapy, my place is not to advise but to support you, both, together.

It is important that both of you are committed to working in couples counselling. Even if you find it hard to be together at times, it is essential that you attend sessions together. It may not be an easy or comfortable process, and it may involve you saying things which are hard to express, or hearing things which are hard to listen to.

If you're struggling to maintain a relationship, and if you're both committed to exploring the issues and seeking a resolution to the problem, then talk together about the possibility of entering counselling. If both of you are willing to take the necessary steps, get in touch to arrange a free initial meeting.

Unlike individual counselling which can develop into a long-term commitment, for couples work I initially offer up to eight sessions of 75-minutes each. Further sessions may be offered by negotiation.

After the free initial meeting, the cost is £50 per couple, per 75-minute session.
