And what is it, anyway?
Why Therapy?

>>  A common belief is that there has to be something 'wrong' with you to seek help from a therapist or counsellor.
As a therapist I can help you illuminate possible sources for your feelings of dissatisfaction or unfulfilled potential, to shed light on why the same things keep happening in your life, apparently regardless of what you do to change them.
I can help you understand why you might behave a particular way in a particular situation, and help you find new ways of behaving to achieve a more satisfactory outcome.
I will give you the time and space you need to express yourself freely, and will listen to what you say in a non-judgemental way.
I may challenge limiting or damaging beliefs that you may hold about yourself, others and the world around you.
I will work with you to make new decisions about your life, and will support you in bringing about those changes to make your world a happier, healthier place to be.

Often there may be a particular event or circumstance which has led you to seek help. Relationships, addiction and bereavement are all specific contexts for which a person may seek counselling support, all with a clearly defined anticipated outcome or resolution.

But what about those times when you simply feel that things could be better, in a way you perhaps can't clearly explain or define? Maybe you feel you aren't fulfilling your full potential in the workplace, or that a relationship has become stagnant or lifeless, for no apparent reason. Perhaps nothing seems to be going right for you, or you find yourself having the same arguments with the same people again and again, without ever finding a resolution to them....
As a therapist I cannot wave a magic wand and make your problems go away!
I'm also fairly certain that I won't have all the answers you're looking for.
Nor will I tell you how to live your life, what to change, or what you need to do to make everything perfect (or even what that might mean for you!).
I cannot prescribe medication, nor direct your GP to do so.
